I believe that simplifying your life begins with your environment. You can’t have a clear mind if your space is cluttered. I’m going through my home one room at a time and decluttering, organizing, and making my home reflect my values. I strongly believe in the statement “Do not keep anything you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”. Today, my focus was on my home office and guest room. This is where I will be writing my blog posts from, so I wanted to feel calm and inspired.
It’s not the fanciest furniture, but it was all given to me by loved ones, and for that I am very grateful! I like simple furniture, and I think it’s quite pretty! We don’t own a television, so this is also where we hang out if we want to watch a movie on the computer. I also finally framed and hung my degree – earned over 10 years ago! I enjoy keeping my essential oil diffuser running in here – Citrus Bliss is my favourite office blend. 🙂
For some reason I’m having trouble parting with my university texts. It seems like a whole lifetime ago that I was in school, but for now I enjoy looking at them. 🙂 If nothing else it’s a reminder that I once did intellectual things! The painting above the shelf was done by my father, whom I recently reunited with. It means a great deal that he gave it to me, so I display it proudly. Yes, the closet door still needs to be painted and the window could use some curtains. I’ll get to it. For now I am happy with a decluttered and calm space to call my own.
